More than 7.4 million Americans who receive Supplemental Security Income will not get a November check because the usual payday falls on a weekend.
When do SSI recipients receive their checks?
SSI recipients usually receive their benefits at the beginning of the month. Because Nov. 1 falls on a Saturday, the November payment will be deposited a day early, on Friday, Oct. 31, according to the Social Security Administration’s calendar and USA Today.
Blavity reported that a similar occurrence happened in August, when SSI recipients received two checks: one on the 1st and the other on the 29th, because September’s check fell on Labor Day, which was a Monday. Beneficiaries will also receive two checks for December, since January’s funds will be issued on Dec. 31, according to the SSA calendar.
Additionally, individuals who receive Social Security and SSI benefits will receive their checks via direct deposit into their bank accounts or Direct Express Cards, as President Donald Trump signed an executive order to phase out paper checks, which officially ended on Sept. 30, per Blavity.
Will the government shutdown affect Social Security and SSI payments?
Despite the government shutdown affecting other federal programs, millions of Social Security and SSI recipients will continue to receive benefits, even though many SSA employees have been furloughed, according to USA Today. These payments are considered mandatory spending and do not require congressional approval, per the SSA.
October and December are the only remaining months in 2025 when SSI recipients will receive two checks due to a weekend or holiday.
