Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul each earned about $93 million after their fight on Saturday. According to the Daily Mail, the two fighters are splitting the total they earned after a six-round match at Kaseya Center in Miami, but one of them is paying a large amount in taxes.
How much of Anthony Joshua’s earnings go to taxes?
While the two fighters earned a large amount for their bout, Joshua is walking away with a smaller portion because he’s a U.K. resident. About 37% of Joshua’s earnings will go to the IRS, according to the Daily Mail.
Although Florida doesn’t have a state income tax, a large portion of Joshua’s earnings is still going to federal authorities. The former Heavyweight champion also owes taxes to the United Kingdom.
Despite losing the fight, Paul will keep a large portion of his earnings because he’s a U.S. resident and he doesn’t have to pay taxes to Florida.
What did Anthony Joshua say after defeating Jake Paul?
Joshua gave credit to Paul after knocking him out in six rounds in the much-anticipated fight, which was broadcast live on Netflix on Saturday.
“Jake Paul has done really well tonight, I want to give him his props. He got up, time and time again. It was difficult in there for him, but he kept on trying to find a way through,” Joshua said in his postgame interview, per the Daily Mail. “You have to give Jake his respect for trying, trying and trying. But he came up against a real fighter tonight that’s had a 15-month lay-off.”
Although he was expecting to knock out Paul even earlier, Joshua still walked away proud of his own performance.
“It wasn’t the best performance,” he said. “The end goal was to get Jake Paul, pin him down and hurt him. That has been the request and that was on my mind. Took a bit longer than expected but the right hand found the destination.”
