British rapper and Supacell star Ghetts has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 41-year-old, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, was charged with death by dangerous driving after the musician allegedly failed to stop his vehicle after hitting 20-year-old Nepali student Yubin Tamang, who died from his injuries, on Oct. 18.

Clarke-Samuel appeared at the Barkingside Magistrates’ Court in Ilford, England, on Monday, where he confirmed his name, date of birth and address before being remanded in custody, the BBC reported. He is set to appear at the Old Bailey, London’s central criminal court, on Nov. 24.

Clarke-Samuel was recently honored for his contributions to Black British culture

Clarke-Samuel is an award-winning MC and songwriter and has collaborated with artists like Ed Sheeran and Stormzy. Metro reported that he won the Best Male Act Award at the 2021 British Music of Black Origin Awards, better known as the Mobo Awards. In 2024, he was honored with the Mobo Pioneer award for his contributions to British Black culture.

The rapper rose to international fame after appearing in Netflix’s Supacell, which was renewed for a second season in August 2024, alongside Tosin Cole, Adelayo Adedayo, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba, Josh Tedeku, Nadine Mills and Eddie Marsan.
