Bankruptcy court documents have revealed the salary of MTV star Rob Dyrdek while the network cancels his longtime clip show, Ridiculousness. The show appears to be the latest casualty of change amid Paramount’s merger with Skydance. According to Bloomberg, MTV was paying at least $32 million per year to Dyrdek, who created and hosted Ridiculousness since 2011.
Dyrdek was producing 336 episodes per year with bonuses that include $21,000 per episode, The Independent reported. The MTV star had a chance to earn $45 million per year if the show continued through 2029. Now, however, MTV has decided to cancel Ridiculousness after 2026.
The new information about Dyrdek’s salary comes after his production company, Superjacket Productions, filed for bankruptcy in October, USA Today reported.
What happened after the Paramount-Skydance merger?
As a result of the Paramount-Skydance merger, thousands of people were let go from their jobs at Paramount. According to The Independent, about 11 percent of Paramount’s 18,600 full- and part-time employees have been cut since the merger.
“We do not want to be a company that has layoffs every quarter. So, it’s going to be painful,” Paramount president Jeff Shell said after the merger, per The Independent.
The merger, which has brought together CBS News, Paramount Pictures, MTV and Paramount+, became official in August after Paramount paid Donald Trump $16 million to settle a lawsuit. The Paramount+ streaming network is owned by Larry Ellison, the tech billionaire who is one of Trump’s biggest supporters.
What’s next for ‘Ridiculousness’?
MTV will continue to air Ridiculousness on the network through 2026. However, the network is not producing any new episodes going forward. Some of the episodes will still stream on Paramount+.
MTV has aired 46 seasons of Ridiculousness since 2011, according to USA Today. The show became famous for featuring viral videos and epic stunt fails with comedic commentary. It was one of the longest-running shows on MTV, which also canceled the long-running Catfish: The TV Show.
